Prayer Shawl Ministry
What is a Prayer Shawl?
A special shawl to be snuggled in. A physical expression of our prayers, a reminder of our love and God's blessings. A gift of hope, of comfort, of peace and love.
Who is Welcome in this Ministry?
Anyone who has the desire to use the talent God has given us to create a special wrap called a Prayer Shawl. Drop by to join us or to visit. You may start up in this ministry at any time. Attending meetings is not mandatory. You are invited to be part of the ministry even if you are not able to attend the monthly meetings and want to create prayer shawls on your own.
Training & Lessons
People interested in learning to knit or crochet may make arrangements to attend and meet with an experienced stitcher. Others who have knowledge of stitching will have assistance available to learn new patterns and create shawls with others in this ministry. You may choose to start out by making a scarf or blanket too.
Commitment Required
Generally, we will meet once a month to pray and create together. The meeting will be held according to the schedule on a Friday evening of each month from 7pm to 9pm at the home of Jody Hall, 858 Viking Lane, San Marcos. The group usually breaks for the Summer. There is a limited yarn supply available; you may choose to purchase your own supplies.
Prayer & Requests
The ministry will take requests for prayer shawl recipients. The shawl creator will pray for the comfort and joy of the recipient of the shawl and give thanks for their ability to create the shawl for them. Shawls can be used for undergoing medical procedures; as a comfort after loss or in times of stress; during bereavement; prayer or mediation; or other endless possibilities. Completed shawls will be prayed over by Care/Community groups before being presented with a card to the recipient. A scrapbook detailing our ministry, co-founded by Pauline Currie in 2007, is available for browsing at the church Information Center in the Lobby.
