Staff Opening - Pastor of Student Ministries

Valley Bible Church is offering an exciting opportunity for a part-time Pastor of Student Ministries to join our talented staff! The ideal candidate will be responsible for outreach and connecting with youth, providing them with fellowship and spiritual growth while overseeing high-energy services, worship and bible studies. This is currently a 20-25 hour per week position; however, full-time employment is possible. The position becomes available September 1st, 2011.

Valley Bible Church is located in the North San Diego community of San Marcos, the fastest growing city in the entire county. Affiliated with the Conservative Baptist Association, we have over a 50-year history of ministry and impact for Christ. Our average Sunday morning attendance is 150. The compensation package for this position includes free tuition for children attending our private Christian School (K – 8th), time off for vacation, paid holidays throughout the year, and a personal office.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in ministry from a four-year accredited Christian College or University, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. We will consider an applicant currently enrolled in a ministry degree program.
  • At least 3 years of youth ministry leadership experience, preferably in Southern California.

Qualifications:

  1. Must have a mature and growing commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, a strong biblical foundation and exhibit a lifestyle in accordance with Christian values.
  2. A passion and clear calling for youth and a desire to see them come to a genuine faith and Christian walk.
  3. Be a hard working, self-motivated, out-going and fun loving staff pastor.
  4. Be married and whose wife is fully supportive of the ministry.
  5. Ability to creatively communicate the truth of God’s Word in a way that is relevant to youth.
  6. Ability both to work on a team and to lead a team.
  7. Possess strong computer skills and be technologically experienced.
  8. Exhibit the appropriate qualifications for church leadership found in 1 Timothy 3: 1-7, Titus 1:5-9 and 1 Peter 5: 1-5.
  9. A ministry style that is both relational and team oriented.
  10. Theological compatibility with the Valley Bible Church doctrinal statement.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Vision:

To oversee the implementation and development of the ministries related to Junior High and High School students (grades 6-12); to insure that they are working in harmony with the other ministries in order to fulfill the church’s purpose statement; and, to be a support to the Senior Pastor in such a way that allows him to fulfill his ministry role.

Pastoral Leadership:

  1. Be a pastor to the youth (Junior High and High School) and their families in the church.
  2. Provide, maintain and communicate a clear purpose and vision for Valley’s Student Ministries to the students, their parents and the church.
  3. Recruit and train leaders to serve in the ministry, providing them with ongoing skills development, communication and relationship.
  4. Plan, coordinate and administrate the various events of the ministry (weekly services, Bible studies, small groups, retreats, staff meetings, camps, fund raisers, service projects, etc).

Administration:

  1. Take primary responsibility for teaching both Bible lessons every week (Sunday morning and Wednesday night).
  2. Keep accurate and consistent records of attendance, monies collected and spent, and manage the Student Ministries portion of the church budget.
  3. Hold regular youth team meetings for communication, planning, development, relationship and prayer.
  4. Provide reports of the Youth Ministry for weekly Pastoral Staff meetings, monthly Elder Board meetings and all leadership meetings.
  5. Plan, organize and hold fund raisers for specific events.
  6. Develop a full yearly calendar of events and provide it to the youth staff, church secretary and Senior Pastor. Events should include camps, retreats, bi-monthly socials/activities, etc.
  7. Be sure the youth ministry section of the church’s web site is maintained to insure information is current.
  8. Establish and maintain office hours, although it is expected that much of the work of this position will occur off campus and outside normal business hours, involving attending athletic, school and social functions to show support of youth.
  9. Other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

Leadership Structure:

The Pastor of Student Ministries is accountable to the Senior Pastor, then to the Elder Board.
