This fall we had the privilege of helping to start 5 new clubs, (4 in San Diego & 1 in Imperial). It was exciting to be a part of helping churches see how Awana can be a part of their church’s ministry & purpose to help children come to know, love and serve Jesus.
We have had the chance to visit over 20 churches & clubs & get to know some of the leaders & clubbers in our area. Those visits have been a blessing to us & it is encouraging to hear stories from both leaders & commanders about families and lives that have been impacted and changed through the ministry. In November we spent three days in Palm Desert with Awana missionaries from our PacWest team, (California, Nevada and Hawaii). It was time of debriefing from Summer & Fall training as well as a time of vision-casting & “how-to” brainstorming as we try to align our goals & desires with God’s will to reach boys & girls for eternity. The meetings concluded with a time of celebration with the Awana Lifeline ministry at the opening of their new offices in Santa Clarita. If you haven’t heard about this fantastic ministry take a look at it here:
Bob received Christ through the ministry of Cru at the age of 21 while attending physical therapy school at Ohio State University. He joined staff 2 years later to work with the high school outreach of Cru (Student Venture). He and Mary Nell served together in youth ministry from 1992-2009 in California, Pennsylvania, Ohio, as well as two years overseas in East Asia. In 2009, God led them to transition to the humanitarian aid ministry of Cru, called Global Aid Network (GAiN). Bob acts as GAiN’s Expansion Coordinator for Disability Ministries and as head physical therapist during wheelchair distribution clinics.
Mary Nell is a licensed CPA. She first joined the CRU staff and worked with the high school. Valley Bible was her church home while she lived in the San Diego area. Currently Mary Nell is GAiN’s Corporate Accountant at their Logistics Center in Lancaster PA.
